Objective 5: Gender equality

Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls

Gender equality can be considered an indicator for developed societies. The global population includes over 50% women, however, there are many inequalities between males and females (example: lower wages, domestic violence, emancipation issues). The gender in which one is born does not influence the dignity and quality of life in developed societies.

Targets:

5.1. Eliminate all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.

5.2. Elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking, sexual exploitation and other forms of exploitation.

5.3. Elimination of all harmful practices, such as early and forced marriages with children, and genital mutilation of women.

5.4. Recognition and appreciation of unpaid care and domestic work, through the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies, and the promotion of shared responsibility in the household and family, as appropriate at the national level.

5.5. Ensuring the full and effective participation of women and equal opportunities in leadership positions at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life.

5.6. Ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, in accordance with the provisions of the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and the final documents of their review conferences.
