Objective 15: Earth life
Protecting, restoring and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainable forest management, combating desertification, halting and repairing soil degradation and halting biodiversity loss
This goal targets a broad theme and reminds us that we humans are part of the biosphere of this planet. For the first time in human history, we have reached a stage when. wherever we go on Earth, we can realize the anthropogenic impact.
Scientists have proposed defining this new geological epoch as the Anthropocene Age or the Age of Mankind. Human society has a huge "footprint" on Earth, this impact also requires increased responsibility, conscious management and related activities in the field of environmental protection. We are part of the biosphere and we must fulfill our role, in the current conditions, from the perspective of sustainable development.
Targets:
15.1 By 2030, ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and arid lands, in accordance with the obligations of international agreements.
15.2 By 2030, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, stop deforestation, restore degraded forests and significantly increase afforestation and reforestation globally.
15.3 By 2030, combating desertification, restoring degraded lands and soils, including lands affected by desertification, drought and floods, and working to achieve a neutral world in terms of soil degradation.
15.4 By 2030, ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems, including their biodiversity, in order to increase their capacity to deliver key benefits for sustainable development.
15.5 Take urgent and significant measures to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, stop the loss of biodiversity and, by 2030, protect and prevent the extinction of endangered species.
15.6 Promote the fair and equitable distribution of the benefits of the use of genetic resources and promote appropriate access to such resources, as agreed at international level.
15.7 Take urgent action to stop poaching and trafficking of protected flora and fauna species and address the demand for and supply of illegal wildlife products.
15.8 By 2030, introduce measures to prevent and significantly reduce the impact of invasive species on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and to control and eradicate priority species.
15.9 By 2030, the integration of biodiversity and ecosystem values into national and local planning, development processes, poverty reduction strategies and plans.
